Nompilo Maphumulo Returns To Uzalo After Drop In Viewership

Isolezwe reports that Nompilo Maphumulo, best known for playing Nosipho Xulu in Uzalo, will be returning to the well-liked South African soap opera. The news was verified by Stained Glass Production’s communications manager, Yvonne Siphuka. She voiced her delight for Nompilo’s return and noted that people will be captivated by it, particularly since she will be shown returning to prison. The crew is excited to share with the public what they have in store for them, and filming has already started.

In the past, Nompilo left Uzalo to play a part in Generations: The Legacy. A dramatic plot point including her character being jailed for the murder of her husband, Pastor Gwala (played by Menzi Biyela), signaled her departure. Isolezwe claims that once a number of well-known performers left Uzalo, the show is viewership started to drop. According to the Broadcast Research Council of South Africa, Uzalo’s viewership has decreased from its peak of 11 million to little over 5 million. Generations: With 4 million viewers, The Legacy is currently in second place.

In an effort to counteract this decline in viewership, the production team has injected well-known celebrities into the plot, such as Siyabonga Nomvete and Neil Tovey of Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana, as well as the renowned actress Brenda Mhlongo.
