RIP  | Gomora Actress Connie Chiume Has Sadly Passed Away At Hospital

South African actress and filmmaker Connie Temweka Gabisile Chiume lived from 5 June 1952 until 6 August 2024. Her parts in Black Panther, Black Is King, and Blessers are well-known. She had television appearances in Gomora, Rhythm City, and Zone 14.

The family of the actress has released statement on Instagram,telling South Africans about the passing of Connie Chiume.The statement was as follows :

“The Chiume family regrets to inform you of the passing of the internationally acclaimed award-winning actress Connie Chiume. The family asks for privacy during this difficult period. The family will communicate further details.”



South Africa’s Welkom is where Chiume was born.She was born in Usisya, Nkhata Bay, Malawi, to Wright Tadeyo Chiume, who passed away in 1983, and her mother, MaNdlovu, died in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, in 2020. Politics is her cousin, Ephraim Mganda Chiume, from Malawi.


Chiume spent her early childhood in Welkom. She completed her matric in the Eastern Cape and went on to graduate with a degree in teaching in 1976. After few years of teaching, she quit to travel and moved to Greece



Little Shop of Horrors, Ipi Ntombi, and Porgy and Bess were among the parts Chiume landed in her acting debut. She was chosen to play Thembi in the 1990 movie Warriors from Hell and the 1989 television series Inkom’ Edla Yodwa after she returned to South Africa. She took home the Best Actress in a Drama Series prize from the 2000 South African Film and Television Awards.

She played the lead roles in the stage versions of You Strike The Woman and You Strike The Rock in 2006.In  Chiume’s portrayal of Stella Moloi in the SABC1 drama series Zone 14 brought her notoriety from 2007 to 2015 and won her another SAFTA.In  In addition, she was given the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Award at the Third SAFTA. Her role in the soap opera Rhythm City in 2015 was Mamokete Khuse.



Chiume portrayed the Elder of the Mining Tribe in the 2018 Marvel Cinematic Universe movie Black Panther.


Chiume wed in 1985 and divorced in 2004. She had two sons and two daughters, totaling four children.

At the age of 72, Connie Chiume passed away at the Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg on August 6, 2024.As for now,the family didn’t tell more about what happened to her.
