Gay Loses Life After Mistaken Identity Incident
A heartbreaking event has occurred involving Clement Hadebe, a 29-year-old from Madadeni, Newcastle, in KwaZulu-Natal. Last Sunday, Hadebe spent the evening out with friends and encountered a man who later extended an invitation for Hadebe to come home with him.
Tragically, in the early hours of Monday, Hadebe was found dead, having been shot nine times at a bed and breakfast in Johannesburg.
According to reports from ZiMoja, Hadebe crossed paths with the alleged assailant at the popular KwaMai Mai Market in Johannesburg’s city center, where the man bought him drinks.
A friend who spoke to ZiMoja revealed that the man and his companions had joined their group and generously offered to buy drinks for everyone. When the man began showing interest in Hadebe, the friend advised him to disclose that he was a man.
However, Hadebe did not heed this advice and accepted the invitation to go home with the man, leading to the fatal encounter.

Another acquaintance told ZiMoja that while they were in a car on the way to a hostel in Jules, Hadebe’s friend was suddenly asked to get out of the vehicle, leaving Hadebe alone with the men.
The following day, Hadebe was discovered shot nine times, allegedly by the man he had left with the night before.
Another friend shared their belief with ZiMoja that Hadebe was murdered after the man realized his true gender.
Shocked and saddened, the friend recalled how the man had lavishly spent money, assuming he had taken a woman home and even reserving a room at a bed and breakfast.
“He could have just let him walk away. What happened is utterly shocking. I hope justice is served for this terrible act. Clement was a wonderful person who loved life; he didn’t deserve this,” the friend mourned
