✅ Question 1: Diary Entry
You have just won a regional spelling bee competition. Write a diary entry describing your experience and emotions on the day of the competition.
✏️ Model Answer: Diary Entry
10 July 2025
8:00 PM
Dear Diary,
I can hardly believe it — I won! I’m the Regional Spelling Bee Champion for 2025, and my heart is still racing with excitement. What a day it has been! From the nervous butterflies in the morning to standing on that stage holding a trophy, I don’t think I’ll ever forget this feeling.
The day started early. I barely slept last night, rehearsing words in my head. My mom made me a good breakfast and gave me a pep talk before we left. As soon as we arrived at the community hall, I saw the other competitors — all smart, focused, and confident. For a second, I felt like I didn’t belong. But then I remembered how hard I had worked and that I deserved to be there too.
The competition was intense. Words flew one after the other: “metamorphosis”, “conscientious”, “camouflage”… I got them all right. I could see the crowd nodding, and I could hear my parents cheering for me in the back. Then came the final round — it was just me and one other contestant. The final word: “pulchritudinous.” I paused, breathed in deeply, and spelled it letter by letter. When the judge rang the bell, I thought I had made a mistake. But then she smiled and said, “Correct!”
The room erupted in applause. I was overwhelmed. My knees felt weak. I saw my mom crying tears of joy. I walked up and accepted the trophy with pride, but also with gratitude for everyone who helped me along the way.
Today, I learnt that believing in yourself is the key to success. I want to hold onto this feeling forever. One small step at a time, dreams really do come true.
Until tomorrow,

✅ Question 2: Postcard
Write a postcard to your cousin describing your trip to Table Mountain in Cape Town.
✏️ Model Answer: Postcard
Cape Town, South Africa
️ 10 July 2025
Dear Sipho,
Greetings from Cape Town! I finally got to visit Table Mountain today and it was absolutely magical. We took the cable car all the way to the top — and wow, what a view! The whole city looked like a tiny model, and the ocean stretched out forever.
I could see Robben Island, the harbor, and even some paragliders flying below us! The air was fresh and cool, and we even spotted some dassies sunbathing on the rocks. I’ve taken tons of pictures and can’t wait to show you.
We ended the trip with hot chocolate at the café at the summit. It was chilly up there! Tomorrow, we’re going to the beach and then visiting the V&A Waterfront.
Wish you were here. Hope to travel together someday soon!
Lots of love,
[Your Name]

✅ Question 4: Giving Directions
A new student at your school asks you how to get to the school library from the main gate. Write clear, step-by-step directions.
✏️ Model Answer: Directions
Directions to the School Library – From the Main Gate
Hi there! Welcome to Springfield Secondary School. If you’re looking for the library, here’s how you can find it easily:
Enter through the main gate and walk straight until you reach the admin building (you’ll see the school logo on the wall).
Take a left turn and walk past the Grade 10 and 11 classrooms. They’ll be on your right-hand side.
You’ll see a big tree and a bench under it — that’s called the “Study Spot.” Turn right at the bench.
Continue walking straight for about 20 meters. On your left, you’ll see the computer lab. Just past it is a glass-fronted building — that’s the library!
Look for a sign that says “Welcome to the Knowledge Hub.” That’s your destination!
Enjoy your reading session! Let me know if you get lost — I’m happy to help!
