On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, a tragic accident claimed the lives of eleven pupils from Rocklands Primary School, one from Laerskool Blyvooruitsig, and their driver. The incident rocked the Carletonville community to its very core.

The entire province of Gauteng is in sorrow following the catastrophe, which happened in the Kokosi-Wedela region of Merafong.
